Hip and crafty brides-to-be understand the value of doing it themselves. Not only is taking a hands-on approach to nuptials a great way to save money, but it allows brides-to-be everywhere to showcase their own personal style. Author Khris Cochran, the wedding world’s craft guru, understands how an engaged gal today plans and designs her wedding. The creator of DIYBride.com and author of two highly successful DYI Bride books, she has packed this third volume with 40 brand new fun and original projects. Organized by wedding theme, including Sand & Sea, Bright Lights, Big City, and A Touch of Country, The DIY Bride An Affair to Remember includes themed projects for save-the-dates, invitations, programs, favors, decorations, and more. A popular price comparison box shows how much these DIY projects can save; a budget section itemizes the costs; and a new box offers extra style variations. With 80 inspiring photos, this is the book brides will say “I do” to for a one-of-a-kind wedding.

Introduction

The inspiration for this book was you, dear reader.  Many months ago—years now, actually—in brainstorming sessions about what my next DIY Bride book would be, I kept returning to today’s DIY couple: Who are modern do-it-yourselfers? What information and crafts do they most seek out? How do they go about planning their weddings?  How can DIY Bride better address their needs in ways we haven’t done before?

When I wrote The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding in 2006, the do-it-yourself wedding landscape was much different than it is today. As the years have progressed, the average crafter has changed. Where once DIY was relegated to micro-budget weddings, it’s now a fixture in more than half of all weddings, micro, mid-range, and luxury budgets included.  Couples are now craftier from the outset thanks to several years of explosive DIY and craft movements. The Internet has fostered strong DIY communities and has helped create a DIY-based economy where crafters can easily find and buy unique do-it-yourself supplies from both big box and independent sellers. It’s such an exciting time to be a do-it-yourselfer because so many wedding and craft resources are readily available to you like never before!

The DIY Bride and my follow-up title, The DIY Bride Crafty Countdown: 40 Fabulous Projects to Make in the Months, Weeks & Hours Before Your Special Day, focused on basic crafting skills and how to best schedule crafting into the already far too busy schedule of engaged couples. The DIY Bride An Affair to Remember takes a step back by addressing a fundamental question about how you plan a wedding, which is usually by style or location. So much of what you’ll craft is based on these two points that it made sense to pull some of the most popular themes into one how-to book.

Chapter One covers all things nautical. If your big day involves boats, docks, lakes, beach, oceans, or other beside-the-seaside goodness, this chapter is for you.

Chapter Two presents a modern fairy-tale wedding, combining romance and glamour without being too frou-frou.
